There should be signs posted to designate the boundary. Regarding the Padre Island National Seashore, hunting from a stationary blind or spoil island is prohibited roughly from the eastern edge of the ICW to the island southward from the park boundary to Baffin Bay. If you plan to set a blind on or near a spoil island anywhere, I suggest you not shoot in the direction of a navigational channel such as the Intracoastal Waterway or the Corpus Christi Ship Channel. Game wardens are not sure who built or destroyed these blinds. It's unclear whether these structures were above the mean high tide line, which would put them on the King Ranch. This should particularly be assumed when decoys are near a blind.īut there is a problem area of the Laguna Madre just south of the electric plant called Hog Slough, where blinds in recent years have been destroyed. If a blind is freshly brushed, it should be considered an active blind and, therefore, off-limits during prime hunting hours. And place it in an area that is always submerged, not on a spoil island. Try to avoid upstaging another hunter's blind by putting yours upwind to near. If you'd like to build your own blind, the rule of thumb is to erect it at least 300 yards from the nearest blind. The fact that nobody (even the builder) can own a duck blind on Texas coastal waters below the mean high tide line contradicts our commonly held notion of property rights, which simply do not apply.
